The school support program provides a variety of
supports to children and adolescents who are in local public schools.
Through the IEP process, support areas are identified within this program.

Assessment: |
Futures provides assessment of areas needing further training for transition planning and other needs. Assessment areas include: | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Community Skills Training: |
Support is provided to assist students to learn to access and utilize their community. Hands on training is provided in the community and in actual settings in areas such as: | |||||

Grocery
Shopping: Making a shopping list,
locating items in the store, identifying areas of the store, pricing
items, using coupons, handling the checkout, paying for items, talking
with the cashier, and other need areas.
Restaurants: Ordering, talking with the wait staff, manners in the restaurant. Library: Obtaining a library card, finding information, borrowing information, using other library services. Other community areas identified by the student, school or family. |
Post
Office: Writing a letter, purchasing stamps,
mailing letters, handling special delivery issues. Banking: Setting up accounts, filling out deposit and withdrawal slips, cashing checks, handling issues at the teller window. Pharmacy: Filling a prescription, talking with the pharmacist, using medical cards, paying for items, refilling medications. Department Stores: Locating items, pricing items, asking for assistance, handling the checkout, comparing items. |

Household Skills: |
Training is provided in areas such as cooking, laundry skills, cleaning, and other household areas. |
Safety Skills Training: |

| Training is provided in areas that assist the student to become more independent when alone. | ||||||

Social Skills Training: |
This formal training curriculum assists the student to gain social skills. The Circles Program as well as other formal programs are utilized with the student in 1/2 hour to 1 hour blocks according to the students ability and needs. |

Sexuality Training: |
After completing an assessment of the students level of understanding, a formal training curriculum assists the student to gain knowledge in this area to support responsible behavior and decision making. This training can be completed individually or in groups. The Circles Program, Life Horizons and other formal programs are utilized according to the students abilities and needs. Parental consent regarding areas to be covered would be an important part of this support. | |||||

Staff Credentials: |

Supervision and curriculum development is completed by Master Level staff with over 25 years of experience in the field of developmental disabilities. | Direct service staff have completed extensive training and have prior experience working with people with disabilities. Each staff is required to have 24 hours of on-going training annually. | ||||
| Academic instruction is provided by a certified special education teacher. | All staff have Child Abuse and Criminal Clearances. | |||||
